George Clooney released from hospital after scooter accident in Italy

The actor and father-of-two was flung meters into the air when he slammed into an oncoming auto.

Actor George Clooney slammed his motorbike into an oncoming vehicle that turned suddenly into his lane Tuesday and was thrown several metres in the air on the Italian island of Sardinia, according to video of the crash.

Clooney was riding the scooter near Olbia when a vehicle cut across the actor's path at an intersection, resulting in a collision, Lt. Alberto Cicognani of the Carabinieri Italian military force said to NBC News.

The John Paul II hospital in Olbia confirmed Clooney was treated there and released after Tuesday's accident, in which Clooney's scooter and a blue Mercedes sedan collided along a curve in the road. Local media that had gathered at the hospital said Clooney is believed to have left through a side exit.

Clooney relocated his family to Sardinia for the summer so he could direct and star in the six-episode mini-series based on the novel by Joseph Heller.

The Oceans Eleven star was riding his bike at Costa Corallina when he collided with a vehicle. He fell. The auto driver called an ambulance.

Clooney is a frequent visitor to Italy.
