Amazon Prime will no longer offer 20 percent discounts on video game pre-orders, the company announced today. But it stated that advertising is important to support the site's creators, and this change will apparently "strengthen and expand" advertising opportunities for those creators.

In case you missed it, Amazon has removed Twitch Prime from the list of benefits of being a Prime member.

Twitch says Prime members can also avoid ads on certain channels using the monthly channel subscription token: "Twitch Prime subscribers can still get channel-specific ad-free viewing as part of Prime by using your monthly subscription token on a channel that has ad-free viewing for subscribers turned on".

Amazon's Prime service offers loads of benefits: free shipping on a ton of Amazon products, a library of streaming entertainment, and even discounts at Amazon-owned Whole Foods.

The Twitch Prime service was launched to give streamers and viewers the "best value in gaming" according to the post.

Track Hurricane Lane as it approaches Hawaii
There were no immediate reports of injuries, but at least 14 roads had been closed due to flash floods and landslides, she said. Parts of Maui County also seeing rain as bands of rain extended 350 miles (566 kilometers) from the hurricane's center.

If you're an avid gamer and an Amazon Prime subscriber, you may just be disappointed with the company's recent announcement. All eligible pre-orders placed before August 28 will still recent the 20 percent discount, but after that, the new benefit will be in place. Effectively, the new pre-order benefits at both Best Buy and Amazon are less valuable and more limited than they were previously. As previously mentioned on the Twitch Prime Guide page, although Prime viewers didn't see ads, creators were still getting credit for those impressions as though they had. Any existing member on a monthly basis will be given a little leeway until October 15th when it will start.

In addition to this bad news, Amazon also declared that Prime members would no longer get 20% discounts off pre-ordered brand new game releases. The pre-order bonus only comes with "select" games and customers must wait up to 35 days to receive the credit.

If you're starting further education or going back to university or college in September, make sure you take advantage of Prime membership for students.

Thank you for being a Twitch Prime member.
