Julian Assange to Sue The Guardian

Manafort and Assange say the article is false and have threatened legal action over the story.

Assange, now 47, has seen many of his privileges restricted by the embassy staff, who have reportedly grown exhausted of him. @WikiLeaks is willing to bet the Guardian a million dollars and its editor's head that Manafort never met Assange.

As whistleblower advocate Naomi Colvin and others pointed out, official Ecuadorian embassy visitor logs make no mention of any Manafort appearances, let alone the three separate appearances reported by the Guardian.

However, Katie Townsend, a lawyer for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, which filed an application to "unseal criminal prosecution of Julian Assange", told the court that the government's inadvertent revelation of charges against the WikiLeaks publisher should prompt the court to release the complaint. I have never reached out to Assange or Wikileaks on any matter.

"London is the most watched city in the western world and if Manafort was there, there is nearly certainly CCTV camera footage of that happening and of course Paul Manafort's travel records of him coming in and out of London as well", he said.

Part of that probe has involved looking into whether any of Trump's associates may have had advance notice before WikiLeaks published emails stolen by Russian hackers from Democratic computer networks to damage Trump rival Hillary Clinton. Manafort joined the Trump campaign as convention manager on March 29, 2016, and later became campaign chairman.

Report: Paul Manafort Met With Julian Assange Months Before WikiLeaks Published DNC Emails
Ecuadorian Intelligence Claims Paul Manafort Met With Julian Assange Prior to DNC Hack

The Guardian on Tuesday reported that Manafort had had multiple meetings with Assange dating back to 2013, including one in March 2016 ― just as Manafort effectively took control of Trump's campaign as he closed in on the Republican nomination.

Trump has railed against the special counsel probe since Mueller's appointment a year ago, often calling the investigation a "witch hunt" and a "hoax".

In recent months, Mueller's team has subpoenaed associates of Trump's political adviser and Manafort's former business partner, Roger Stone, who has denied having access to the emails.

Without a pardon, the 69-year-old Manafort could spend the rest of his life in prison, experts said. However, Mueller's team late Monday told the federal judge handling the case that Manafort had repeatedly lied to investigators in breach of his plea deal, and asked that sentencing be scheduled as soon as possible.

Manafort has been at the heart of several unresolved threads of the Robert Mueller investigation. The president has bemoaned the treatment of Manafort, and railed against the Mueller probe this week.

Manafort started cooperating in September after pleading guilty in a federal court in Washington to conspiracy against the United States - a charge that included a range of conduct from money laundering to unregistered lobbying.
