Bryce Harper To Nationals Still Possible, Phillies To Meet With Right-Fielder

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that Harper has met multiple times with Nationals' representatives and that staying in a distinct possibility for the 26-year-old slugger.

For instance, a four-year deal at a guaranteed $160 million ($40 mill per season average) could put Harper back into the free agent market again at age 30.

Next week's meeting appears to be the first face-to-face between Harper and members of the Phillies brass since Harper hit the open market.

For what it's worth, ESPN's Jeff Passan - one of the most respected Major League Baseball insiders - reported on Wednesday that the White Sox are willing to go 10 years. Contract estimates have hovered around 10 years, $350-$400 million, depending on who you ask. That means giving him the biggest deal in baseball history, surpassing Giancarlo Stanton's $325 million deal.

The White Sox might find themselves "relatively close" to the Dodgers in the competition for Harper, that is if they don't want to go past seven years and if the Dodgers have no interest in a enormous, decade-long pact.

Trump Tweets At Brazil's New President Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro Responds In Kind
On Tuesday, Bolsonaro reiterated his commitment to fighting crime in a nation that has long led the world in annual homicides. The sole issue left to be worked out was the United States' quashing of a $500 million arms deal between Israel and Croatia.

It's still unclear whether the Nationals' interest is still on the terms they discussed at the end of the season, or whether the team's priorities have changed. There should be 15 teams in on them if it's limited to seven years! The Athletic's Jim Bowden - a former Nationals GM - reported that the team has now offered Harper "much more than the $300m being reported by the media".

" should not be taken as gospel that the Phillies have offered or will offer Harper 10-plus years".

The White Sox made "a serious offer, likely closer to $200 million than $300 million", according to Nightengale. Hopefully, a decision will be made by either player soon.
