Fields entered into the NCAA Transfer Portal late last month, clearing the first hurdle towards his exit from Georgia. In his only season at Georgia, Fields appeared in every game but the Sugar Bowl after he made his decision to transfer. He played in 13 games this season and completed 27 of his 39 pass attempts for 328 yards and four touchdowns.

The Buckeyes landed Georgia backup quarterback Justin Fields, a highly touted recruit who spent the season backing up Bulldogs' starter Jake Fromm. He was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the effort, and he was also named to the SEC's All-Freshman team.

Quarterback Tate Martell is a former national top-75 prospect who has been on Ohio State's roster for two years, so he'd seem like the natural choice to replace Dwayne Haskins if - errr, when - Haskins announces he's leaving for the NFL. If Fields can be what the program expects him to, Ohio State could be risky again in 2019. Rated as the second-best dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class, the Las Vegas Bishop Gorman standout put up huge numbers in high school. Both are expected to compete with Fields for the starting job as he will seek to be immediately eligible.

A Phoenix police spokesman said that "the matter is now under investigation" but declined to give any further details of the case. For example, an investigation in 2013 found that a staff member had made "inappropriate, sexual statements" about four clients.

There's no timetable for a ruling on Fields' eligibility.

Ohio State and Georgia are not scheduled to play each other at any point in the near future, though there is always the chance the two teams could meet in the College Football Playoff.
